Specialized Children's Guidance

(Guidance of Exceptional Children) Guidance of special children is very important for education because guidance is the system by which education and training of physically and mentally handicapped children can be correct.  Their development, functionality, quality can be made and their general balanced development can be done.  In ordinary life, the classification of special people is done.  Such as physically and mentally handicapped children, there are retarded, backward, unadjusted and very talented people etc.  Special guidance is necessary for them, both educational and vocational, because special children are also important parts of the society.  There are about 5 crore disabled children in India itself, who are disabled in one way or the other, but this does not mean that they should not be considered a part of the society.  That is why there is a need for comprehensive guidance for such children.  Guidance for special children means that special guidelines should be given for such children, so that they can become a part of the society like a normal person.  The word guidance refers to all those services, which help a person in the development of the following abilities.
(1) To set proper objectives for itself.
(2) To provide for the means by which these objectives may be achieved.  The following things are essential in a complete guidance service.
(1) To help a person understand himself.
(2) To awaken interest and desires in every person, which are in accordance with the society.
(3) Awakening the proper receipt.
(4) To make the person aware of his environment.
(5) To provide immense experience.
(6) To provide ample opportunities for the attainment of its objectives.  Specialized children should be given both educational and vocational guidance, although the majority of their guidance is educational guidance.  School is the best institution to provide both types of guidance.  The guidance needs of a typical child are in no way less than that of a normal child.  Guidance to special children should be given individually rather than in groups.  This is because the needs of each individual child are different.

Guidance services should be given to them in such a way:-
1. Guidance should be given to all the special children who come to the school.
2. The school guidance service should also seek help from other outside guidance services.
3. All those resources should be used in the school guidance service, which are available and necessary for this.  Guidance and Personality Development The good life of a person depends on his personality.  Guidance services can be helpful in the development of personality of special children.  For this, the needs of special children and the needs of guidance should be well understood.  A good personality requires an acceptable balance between the needs of security, independence and self-expression, in this direction the guidance services of special children should strive.

First of all, the personality should be developed by the director and for this some characteristics should be created in the personality.
(1) Acceptance of physical disability .
(2) Development of independent personality.
(3) Security.
(4) Self-confidence.
(5) Ability to self-demonstrate and appropriate education.
(6) Proficiency in any work, business or employment.
(7) His work experience  After the attainment of employment.
( 8 ) life must be lived with a struggle.

These things should be done through a comprehensive guidance program for the development of the personality so that the foundation of a balanced personality complete with educational and vocational training can be prepared.  Special guidance for disabled children There are different types of disabled children.  Before providing guidance, it is essential to identify the type of disabled person they are.  A physically handicapped child cannot be well identified in the school.  For this they should be sent to the clinic.  For the guidance of the disabled person, it is necessary to have a mentor and counselor in the school.

The following points should be kept in mind while identifying these children:
(1) To get those tasks done which can be done by a disabled child as effectively as a normal child in the class.
(2) Expressing happiness and accepting the success of a disabled child in his work.
(3) To get the child to do work related to speed, social skills and other abilities.
(4) To control their environment.
(5) To test the qualities of tolerance, happiness, interest etc.
(6) To give special guidance to the parents of the children so that they understand the needs of their children.  The main objective of guidance is to enable children to set goals for themselves.  Through guidance, a person should develop the ability to understand his environment.  This is important for special children.  Since the abilities of a disabled child are limited, it is necessary that such children have the knowledge of how much ability they have.  If the specific child becomes aware of this, then he can determine his objectives according to his ability.  This helps him to make adjustments in life like other people.  A well organized guidance can be helpful in this area.  Educational and Vocational Guidance There is a dire need of academic and vocational harmony of the elite.  For this there should be educational and vocational resettlement institutions.  These institutions can provide guidance with the help of the school, similar to abroad, public rehabilitation institutions can also be established for this work.

These 8 steps should be given in the guidance given by these institutions and schools for the adjustment of special children.
1. Identification of specific child - For this the teacher should take the help of other institutions.  He can get the services of educational institutions, health institutions, social welfare institutions and other similar institutions.
2. Medical examination - The child should be thoroughly examined.  By this it should be decided that which subjects will be suitable for the particular child and which occupation will be right.
3. Physical Restoration - Those physical disabilities, which can be reduced or removed, must be removed.  Only after this they should be given educational and vocational guidance.
4. Counseling - Counseling is the focal point of guidance service.  Without it there can be no restoration.  Counseling services should be started from the first interview and continued till the person gets the job.  A good counseling service makes the person aware of his weaknesses and makes efforts to overcome them.
5. Vocational instructional services should also make arrangements for vocational training for the good job of the child.  If secondary schools offer vocational courses, then the disabled child should take full advantage of them.  The secondary school should also try to employ such a child.
6. Essential Complementary Services - These services will come under - essential life related tips, training related goods, such goods and items, which are necessary for vocational training.
7. Establishment of business - A business resettlement can be possible only when that person is engaged in some proper business.  For this it is necessary that the business should be such that the person can take full advantage of his ability.  This also applies in respect of special children.  A successful establishment is an essential quality of a good professional direction.  Recently there has been a lot of development in this area for disabled children.  The studies conducted in America under the leadership of Mr. Vernon Benta revealed the method of selected placement of the establishment.  It is mainly in relation to special children.

8. Follow-up - In a good guidance service one should not think that the work of guidance is over when the person gets the job.  It also includes followings.  It should be seen whether the worker is satisfied with the job and whether he is working properly or not.  Whether he is getting salary properly or not, etc.
