Counseling Service The importance of counseling service is highest in the guidance program.  According to Webster, 'Consultation refers to advice, exchange of ideas and willing association.
According to Strang, there is a face-to-face relationship between the counselor and the counselor.  ,

Similarly, according to Humphrey and Traxler – Counseling is the process of solving a person's problems from school or institution sources.

An essential part of the guidance program is counseling.  Gilbert Wren, George E.  Myers, Robinson, Carl Rogers, Edmund Williamson, Humphrey and Traxler, and Andrew and Jones have described the need for counseling as follows:
1. This is a personal reference pointer.
2. The client has to decide for himself.
3. Consultation is scientific suggestion.
4. Counseling helps in learning.
5. There are two sides to the process of counseling.  Giver and taker.
6. To give counseling according to the merit of the students.
7. Counseling is a concerted effort.  It is clear from all these definitions that counseling is an essential discipline of guidance.

Types of Counseling There are three types of counseling:-
1. Direct Counseling - In direct counseling, the child is asked to do some work directly.  In this, instructions are given to the child.  In direct counselling, analysis, synthesis, diagnosis, pre-section counseling and follow-up and assistance are given to the students.  The counselor provides personal and objective assistance to the client on the basis of the required information.
2. Indirect Counseling - In this type of counseling, any counseling to the child.  In which action the child should be engaged, the decision is not given directly, after which the child is put in the desired work.  Indirect consultation, discussion, investigation, exploratory expression, discussion on examination suggestions, plan formulation, implementation and evaluation are used.
3. Eclectic Consulting - It is also called as cumulative or coordinated consultation.  In this the needs of the individual are studied.  The preparation of consultation is done by the selection of techniques, evaluation of the effectiveness of the experiment.  Help is taken from these people, in this objective and cohesive methods are used.  Qualities of Counselor In the words of Leafiver – 'A teacher counselor is one who is relieved from work in at least one class for guidance work.  He should use half the time for counseling and guidance.

According to Steipler and Kamat, these qualities are necessary in a counselor.
(1) He should have ethical behavior
(2) He is of intellectual ability.
(3) It should have sensitivity.
(4) It should have Understanding.
(5) It should have such effectiveness that its suggestions are accepted.
(6) There should be flexibility in his behavior.
(7) He should have adjusting ability and unparalleled confidence.
(8) He should respect the personality of the client as a whole. 
(9) He should understand himself and help the client.
  (10) Be generosity and tolerance.  Teachers perform the role of counselors in schools. 

So Franklin J.  In the words of Keller, "The teacher teaches what he (the teacher) is himself, the teacher understands the importance of work."  He should develop such a belief that becomes a part of his life.  Only then can he be able to make others like him.  Counseling in India Guidance and counseling in India are still in a state of trust.

These are the major barriers in the work of consultancy in India.:-
1. More work pressure on teachers.
2. Conservative view of teachers.
3. Untrained and conservative parents.
4. Untrained teachers.
5. Defective of course.
6. Defective examination system.
7. Increasing student population in schools.
8. Pathetic economic condition of schools
9. Lack of resources.
10. Lack of organized guidance service organizations.
11. Absence of standardized testing.
12. Caste, party and religious hatred.  1
3. Low standard of living By solving all these problems in this way, the counseling work can be speeded up smoothly.  Counseling, When, Why and How?  (Counselling, when, why and how?) Counseling in school is an intensive educational process.  Through this, the teacher reveals the hidden abilities and abilities of the students by giving them necessary counseling to solve their problems.  Clarification of the problem, freedom from the problem and stress, solution of the problem in the absence of discretion and decision power, in the absence of facilities, there is a need for counseling in such situations.

Three methods are used for counseling-
(1) interview,
(2) group counseling method,
(3) Diagnostic method.

1. Interview method - After collecting information, problems and other facts from the client of this method, the solutions of the problems are told to him.  By establishing affinity with the client, his trust, sympathy and acceptance are obtained.  Counseling is provided through amusement, personal reference, questioning, surprise, disorderly composition, approval, conversation.

2. Group Guidance Method - By this method decision power is developed in the students.  Their problems are identified and solutions are found.  Counseling is done using direct and indirect methods through various techniques like team learning group, film, television, question box, lecture, small group report, informal talk etc.

3. Clinical method - Diagnostic method is used for the treatment of problem children.  The problems of accommodative deficit children are solved by diagnostic counseling.
